John Graziani

 John has lived in Southgate for most of his life. He enjoys sports, especially baseball and soccer.  He is a graduate of Southgate Schafer High School in 1980.  He has a Bachelors Degree  in Economics and Government from the University of Michigan.  John has a Jurist Doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law and has attended the University of Notre Dame School of Law Program in London England.  Currently he is a practicing attorney with a law office in Southgate.  He has been practicing for 15 years.

    John has served on the Council from 1993-1997 and 2001 to the present.  He is currently Council President and was also Council President in 1995-1997.     

    John has been married for 14 years, with two children ages 11 and 5.  John’s eldest son will be attending Gerisch in the fall and their youngest will attend the Southgate Preschool Program.  John supports and is actively involved in Southgate recreational activities.  John has been a coach and also assistant coach on his son’s baseball and soccer teams through the years.

Dear Southgate Neighbor,

     I am very proud to be serving on the  City Council and along with the rest of the Council, Mayor, Clerk, and Treasurer look forward to providing the best possible service to our residents.  We will always strive to be as accessible as possible. My goal as an elected official has always been to focus on quality economic development with a constant emphasis on improvement.  I plan to continue working hard to: 

  • Maintain our residential areas against unwanted and haphazard economic development

  • Continue bringing quality development to Southgate

  • Make Southgate more cost effective

  • Get citizens more involved in our city government

  • Continue to improve the quality of life in Southgate

  • Maintain safety in our neighborhoods.

     The City Council encourages citizen involvement and welcomes residents to our meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 8:00 PM.  We welcome input through phone calls, mail, and of course, email.  Our email address is council@ci.southgate.mi.us  

     My pledge to you is to always make sure that Southgate remains financially responsible and to also make sure that Southgate can be the very best it can be.
