An elected Treasurer heads the Treasurer’s Office. The main responsibility of the department is the processing of all cash receivables including the collection of taxes and water bills, and the investing of City monies.

Taxes are collected for the City, County, and School, accounted for and disbursed to each tax entity. Tax information is available to taxpayers, mortgage companies, real estates, title companies, and the general public. Water bill collection is also handled through this department.

Tax information is available to taxpayers, mortgage companies, real estate offices, title companies, and the general public. Information is also available at access terminals at the Southgate Public Library and in the Assessor's Office.

Current Tax Schedule
City (Summer) tax bills are scheduled to be mailed in the beginning of July and due Friday, August 15 - City (Summer) billing is for the fiscal year July 1 to June 30.

If you do not receive your tax bill by the 3rd week in July and do not have an escrow account with your mortgage company, please call the number listed above for a duplicate copy.

Penalties: 1/2% penalty is applied from August 16th to August 31st and an additional 1/2% for every month after.

Payment of Tax Bills
Tax and water bills can be paid at City Hall, mailed to the above address, or placed in the drop box located at City Hall to the right of the front entrance in the wall. If using the drop box, place your payment (no cash) in an envelope or attach the bill and check together.

Bill payments can also be made at the Southgate branches of:

National City Bank - Tax and water bills - They must be current. There are no fees, but an account is necessary.

Standard Federal Bank - Tax bill only! It must be current. There are no fees. Only cash is accepted and no account necessary.

Downriver School Employees Credit Union - Water bills only! - Bill must be current. A membership is required and a $.50 fee will be charged.

Northline Sav Mor Drugs - Water bills only! - Bill must be current and a $1.00 fee will be charged.

Acceptable forms of Payment
Cash, checks, or money orders are accepted.
Credit card, debit, and on-line payments are not available at this time.
